Chalkboard

So I've been wanting a chalkboard for a long time, for our front porch.  I saw one a few years ago on a blog and it was the cutest thing ever!  I've had my eye out for one, ever since.  Always checking flea markets, thrift shops and antique stores, but never finding exactly what I had in mind.

Well, right before the fourth of July, I had a brainstorm.  I had seen tons of frames turned into chalkboards and I thought, why not buy a GIANT frame and use that as my chalkboard?  I headed to Hobby Lobby and picked up this frame.

I found this picture, originally $59.99, marked down to $6.  I brought it home, took the back off, glass out and sanded the shine off.  Then I took yellow acrylic paint and watered it down a bit.  I dry brushed it on the frame for a more weathered look.

Mike cut a piece of board to fit the frame and I put three, or maybe four, coats of chalkboard paint on it.  Then I tied a piece of chalk to the frame with some baker's twine and wrote a message!

I love my new front porch chalkboard and all for only $6!

Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope you have a great Tuesday!  I'll see you all tomorrow!!

  4. This is fabulous!!! I love it!!!

We did the same thing for the wedding. I couldn't find chalkboard I liked, so I used a frame and painted chalkboard paint onto the glass. I'm so much happier with the handmade ones than the ones I saw in the store!

This is such a great idea for the front porch!
