So proud.

Good morning friends!  Did you have a nice weekend?  We were super busy, but it was GREAT!  I would have to say the high point of the weekend was yesterday morning when we went and walked with my cousin at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.  My cousin, Jessica, is just 34 years old and was diagnosed with breast cancer in June.  She had a double mastectomy three weeks ago.  She has chosen to FIGHT.  She is amazing.  Her attitude, her outlook, her spirit is inspiring.  I am so proud of her and how she is moving through this difficult time in her life.  She starts chemo in a week and I can't even imagine the emotions she must be feeling.  I will do whatever I can for her.

Abie and Landry got up at 5:00 AM so they could walk and support Jessica.  I was so proud of them :)

Here's Mike and my cousin, with her boxing gloves and all!  Mike raised $220 and ran his first 5K yesterday.  Another proud moment for me.

I have to be honest here, I've never given breast cancer a second thought.  Until now.  One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.  Isn't that scary?  I want my girls to be aware, I want them to have Jessica as a role model, she is unbelievable.  I'm so proud she's my cousin.

Thanks for coming by today, and sharing in my proud moment.  I'll be back tomorrow with a regularly scheduled crafty post :)  Have a fantastic Monday.

  2. That is very cool. I've been touched by breast cancer on both sides of my family. My beloved Aunt (Dad's sister) that I grew up living next door to died from breast cancer in 1991 and my Grandmother (Dad's Mom) followed a few years later, also breast cancer. My Mom was diagnosed about 5 years ago but she found it early and has been cancer free since her surgery. I'm only 38 but have already had my baseline mammogram. I'd rather be safe than sorry. Great photo of your girls. So glad they and you guys are supporting the cure. It's a cause all of us women need to fight for!

  7. I will keep your cousin in my thoughts and prayers. She seems like such a strong woman, who will definitely fight hard! So many of the women in my life have been affected, Long Island has a very high rate of breast cancer, and we were all raised there, but each and every one of them chose to fight.

  9. sorry you have to go thru this with your family-- it is NOT something we think about till we have to, is it?? And 1 in 8 is a really scary statistic!!
My sister was diagnosed at age 39 (I was 28) and that is the first time breast cancer was ever mentioned in our family history. Attitude is sooo important with diseases like this; she decided she wasn't going to let it beat her, either, and last fall she celebrated her 10-year anniversary cancer-free, so it CAN be done... good luck to your cousin!!
