The Before

Oh Friday, how I love thee.  I know it was a short week with that snow day and all, but good grief this week seemed to drag on for me.  So happy it's Friday. We don't have anything going on this weekend.  Abie has tennis Saturday AM and she's having a friend over that afternoon.  But that's the extent of our plans.  Best part about this weekend...it's a three day one!  We have Monday off for Martin Luther King Day.  Woo hoo!

Now today's post is not something I created, but it is definitely craft related.  I'm sure you all understand the need for a crafty space.  I started out scrapbooking almost five years ago, out of a bag.  I then transitioned into a rolling cart in the family room.  I quickly outgrew that and moved to the dining room.  Several months later I had the grand idea to move into a computer armoire into our master bedroom.  I stayed there for a bit, and Mike built a sewing table for me and a second desk.  I just kept accumulating more stuff and kept outgrowing all of my spaces.  We had a second baby at this point and didn't have a spare bedroom as an option so I wasn't sure what to do.  I was cruising through the gallery over at Two Peas and I came across a few fabulous scrap rooms that were in unfinished basements.  My wheels immediately started turning!  It was shortly after this that I made the big move to our unfinished basement!  This was about two years ago.  Now since then, there have been many improvements made and I've rearranged the furniture several times, but it's still an unfinished basement.  Rafters for a ceiling, concrete walls, etc.  But I love it down there and it's my very own crafty space!!!!

I'm ashamed to admit that when I moved down there two years ago, I never really organized things very well.  I was just so freaking excited to have such a huge space, that I got everything in and started creating!  :)  I know you all know what can happen over two years of buying and crafting and not really organizing right?

All of these pictures show you what can happen when you don't organize for two years.  Don't get me wrong, I know where stuff is, for the most part.  But come on, that sewing machine up there doesn't even work!  Why do I still have it?  No idea?

On Tuesday, I spend 5 hours cleaning and organizing this area up!  I'll post the after pics on Monday!  I'm so looking forward to crafting in my area now.  It's great down there now, I love it even more than before!

Do you work better in creative chaos, or do you prefer an organized space?

Thanks for popping in today!

  2. I love your craft room furniture. I don't have a space so my is an organized mess. I hope that if we ever have extra room, I can actually be organized.

  4. NO creative chaos for me. I have to have an organized space. It gets messy while I'm creating, but I do clean up as soon as a layout is done. You have an awesome space! Can't wait to see the after photos.

  7. I love an organized space...but right now my crafting area is pure chaos! It stems from not putting things back where they belong after I've used them.

  13. I know just what you mean Becky. I have been organizing my space for about 2 weeks. I had to stop to create for a few days. Couldn't take it any longer.
When I moved into this room, I painted and shoved it all in. I had deadlines to meet and stuff to make;)
Now I know once it is done I know I will love it even more. Just like you. Can't wait to see your pics.

  14. I love your space, it is so roomy and big. Plus it looks pretty organized to me.
I love to create in an organized space. Mind you that never includes my desk, floor or anything I can lay stuff on top of, teehee.
i have been good at cleaning up after I have completed a project.
