Vacation bags.

I'm feeling a bit discombobulated today.  Things are starting to run together as we're preparing to leave on vacation soon, and I'm hoping everything gets taken care of.  Earlier this week, Mike's work car broke down, to the point that the company isn't going to replace it, and he is flying to Chicago (hi Katie) next Thursday to pick up his new car and drive it back.  Plus Abie's volleyball games start next week.  Plus we're leaving on vacation next week.  Oy!  See what I mean by life happening?  Life is happening a lot around here lately :)

Last week, when life wasn't so busy happening, I was able to put together a couple of vacation bags for the girls.  We're driving to Orlando (hi Tammy) and I know they're going to get bored of DVDs, tables, iPods and DSI's at some point.  So I stumbled across some great finds in the dollar aisle at Michael's.

I picked up travel journals, car bingo, magnetic checkers, magnetic tic tac toe, sleep masks and fun tissues.  I remember many a car trip with my sister, passing the time with car bingo and magnetic checkers.  I was SO excited to find these :)

I wrapped all of these up and placed everything in the bags.  As the girls get bored, or restless, they can reach in and open up one of the fun little presents.  Not anything big, but something a little fun to help pass the time.

Are you guys taking any road trips this year?  I'm SO excited for ours.  We're going to have a blast and I can't wait to go!!!  In the meantime, we have a nice relaxing Memorial Day weekend planned.  I hope you have a great Friday/weekend and I'll see you soon!  Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Looks like fun! We had stuff like this for our long road trips growing up - I always loved filling out Mad-libs or reading books while we drove across the country. The weather is warm in Orlando! But not HOT yet - mostly upper 80's and not too humid. Next week it will be low 90's so the thunderstorms will kick in some days, but not every day yet. You guys might luck out with great weather! Have a great weekend! :)

  3. Not sure if we are taking any big trips or not this summer.
Maybe a little road trip here and there :)

I did vacation bags like that for Evan and Erin when we drove up to Canada last summer and they were life savers!! I wish I could have found the Bingo game like you did though. That seems fun!

Hope you have a fun, safe trip!!!

  4. I love how you do vacation bags for the girls! We don't do road trips due to Caleb and Jeremy having severe motion sickness :o( Not very fun! Direct flights to Disney World in the past years haven't been too terrible though, at least they have bags on the plane, lol. Have a wonderful Memorial weekend!

  5. I didn't see a (Hi Tracy) so guess your travels won't be my way :(
Cute totes, so fun for the girls.
I did that for my girls, but didn't give them their bags until we were well into the drive.
Funny as they still expect the bags when we travel and they are way past your girls ages, teehee.
High light of a road trip I guess :)

  6. Cool bags! I did something similar when my kids were younger. Now they're all teens and electronics rule for them. We are taking a LONG trip this summer to California-we'll be driving and it's a good 2000 miles or maybe a little more. We've done it a few times before but it's always stressful.

  8. Hi! I'll wave at the airport next Thursday :)

The girls are going to love these bags! I love how you wrapped everything up to make it even more of a surprise!

We used to drive to Long Beach Island, NJ every year (only about 4 hours), but when we got there, we'd be at the beach for a week. My mom used to put together similar activity bags for us for the car and to use on the beach/in the beach house at night. It was so much fun, and we loved having special new things to play with!

AJ and I are much older than your girls, but I told him for the honeymoon plane ride I'm making us vacation bags, because the trip home from St. Lucia took over 15 hours, and we were so bored by the last plane ride!

I hope you are having an awesome Memorial Day weekend :)
