I can't believe I did it. I took the leap. I cut all my patterned papers down to 6x6!!!! Are you as shocked as I am? A few months ago I read THIS article and was completely inspired and scared at the same time. I've been wanting to cut my papers down and reorganize them ever since but just hadn't got around to it. 1) I couldn't find the crate I wanted (big excuse, I know) 2) I'm somewhat of a procrastinator 3) I was scared, once the paper is cut, it's CUT! There is no going back here people.
I finally found my crate at a dollar store. It wasn't the exact color I wanted. I would have preferred the pink ones I saw at Walmart in August, but I figure that's what I get for procrastinating, right?
I started cutting up my paper the other night. Now I didn't cut my full sheets, just my scraps. Let me tell you, it felt AMAZING! I was slightly tempted to hang on to the larger chunks of paper, but I didn't. I threw them away!
After all my paper was cut, I made dividers out of manila file folders cut to 6x7. I used my Papertrey Ink file folder tab die to make the labels and just wrote the different colors with a gel pen.
This really made me fall in love with some of my paper again. Paper I forgot I even had. I know this isn't for everyone, but I think it's going to be great for me and I'm super excited about it!
Just a couple of more things today. Last week Abie and I went to Goodwill. I was hunting for jello molds and bowls to hold things in my craft room. Guess what I found?
EIGHT heart shaped jello molds for....$1.99!!!!! I was SO excited, I can't even tell you.
Look how happy those buttons and stick pins are :) Now for some reorganizing...
I also picked up this pattern for $.49, no not for the dress, although I'm pretty sure my mom or sister or I had a dress like that back in the day :) I bought it for the pattern paper, to use on some cards. Super excited about that too!
Okay, are you all excited out now or ready to cut up your paper and hunt up your Goodwill store? Any big plans this weekend? I have a staff meeting and mini training at work today. Also have to work until 5PM, I usually only work until 3:30PM so that's a tough one on a Friday. It's going to feel so good when I get home! We're having mom and dad over tomorrow night for dinner. Other than hitting Costco at some point, I think that's the extent of our plans this weekend. Thanks for coming by today. Have a wonderful Friday and a spectacular weekend!

oh wow! you are brave. I really couldnt do it. I do use all my scraps though either on another layout or on a card. i am very frugal.
ReplyDeletehope you have a great weekend!
Love seeing all your crafty organizing and creativity, love it! Looks like a great way to love your scraps.
ReplyDeleteGreat finds! I need to do something with my scraps. I wouldn't do my full sheets, but this may not be such a bad plan for my scraps. Hmmmm....and we are expecting a snowstorm this weekend...seems like a good way to spend the day! LOL!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. I actually really like the color of the crate. I love those bright colors though. I love fluorecent colors. It will make a fun addition to your craft space.
ReplyDeletegreat idea! love the color of the crate. it will stand out so you'll remember to use those delicious 'new' 6x6 papers ;)
ReplyDeleteWell well well, this could be a good idea for my scraps... But at the same time, my brain is screaming : "BUT WHAT IF YOU NEED A SLIGHTLY LARGER PAPER THAN 6x6??".. KWIM? We'll see if I'm strong enough :p
ReplyDeleteI like the green! hahaha. Great job on the finished product, though. And congrats on the Goodwill find. I was looking at the model on the dress pattern package thinking "That looks an awful lot like Brooke Shields" and then I scrolled down just a bit to see the name Brooke and so I guess it IS her. Have a GREAT weekend.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I almost fainted when I read you cut up your paper...but then I read that it was only your scraps, thank goodness! I'm going to have to check out that article.
ReplyDeletePS - I love Goodwill!!!
Oh wowzers, I don't think I could do that but I'm more of a scrapbooker than a cardmaker. But for cardmakers it makes so much sense.
ReplyDeleteI love finding fun stuff at Goodwill-you just never know what will turn up. Those heart molds are awesome.
Wow...wouldn't work for me, I need my papers 12 x 12, but great idea. You look very organized! :)
ReplyDeleteBRAVO - I did that 2 years ago and never looked back. I also cut anything smaller than what I could get a 6x6 piece out of into 4x6 and or 2x6. Love love love it.
ReplyDeleteWow, I love this idea! I mean, I couldn't do it with all my papers, since I scrapbook in 12x12 all the time, but for scraps, this is a great idea! I definitely keep ones that are way too small to use for anything!
ReplyDeleteYou are so brave! LOL. More power to you Becky if it helps you use up your paper. The molds are so cute and perfect for holding little bits. And I had to laugh when I saw that pattern. So funny. I sewed back in the day and remember patterns from the 80's. So stylish! :) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to get your scraps organized- TFS
ReplyDeleteSeriously do we share the same brain, lol.
ReplyDeleteI was planning on cutting (my scraps only) into the 6x6 size after reading this exact same post.
I just need the containers and make some time ;)
And I am planning on using my old patterns for backgrounds on my projects.
WOW, that was a very brave thing to do! I would have a stomach ache if I had to cut up my paper! :)
